AN Ayrshire MSP has heaped praise onto a Cumnock housing company for the work they do in providing havens for many people.

Sharon Dowey visited Connect Modular’s modular home factory in Cumnock.

Connect Modular is part of the Wee House Group, founded in 2013 by father and daughter Ian Hope and Jennifer Higgins.

It provides affordable modular homes to housing organisations and developers around the UK.

One such modular housing development by Riverside Scotland is currently under construction in Dundonald. More than 13 per cent of the homes on the Dundonald site have been allocated to military veterans at risk of homelessness as part of Riverside Scotland’s commitment in collaboration with South Ayrshire Council.

By using an innovative and sustainable construction method, 90 per cent of the homes are constructed in the factory with fully fitted kitchens, bathrooms, plumbing and electrics before being transported for completion on site.

It is estimated that this new method reduces construction waste by up to 85 per cent when compared to traditional sites, and that it requires approximately 67 per cent less to produce such construction.

Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Sharon Dowey was given a tour by the Managing Director of Connect Modular and the Wee House Company Jennifer Higgins and she also learned about Riverside Scotland’s modular development in Dundonald from Managing Director Dianna MacLean.

“It was great to take a tour of the modular home factory and observe how nearly the entire house is built there before being transported to the development site," said Ms Dowey.

“I’m happy to see Ayrshire business setting an excellent example by changing the way we build homes. Their innovative and environmentally friendly construction process tackles multiple issues at once.

“It’s quite an accomplishment for the Wee House Company family business to have already won numerous awards in house building given how young the company is. I encourage them to continue their hard work and I wish them the best of luck in the future and ongoing success for their business.

“A big thank you to Dianna for sharing further information about River Scotland’s modular home development in Dundonald and to Jennifer for a wonderful tour of their facilities. I really appreciate it.”
