GP practices in East Ayrshire will be closed over the September weekend.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran confrimed that GPs will be closed on Friday, September 16 and Monday, September 19 for the September bank holiday, which is also the national day of mourning and state funeral of Her Majesty The Queen.

These closures include Tanyard Medical Group, Auchinleck Surgery, Ballochmyle Medical Group and Valley Medical Practice.

Residents are being urged to ensure they have enough supplies to last them over the long weekend.

NHS 24 has a number of pharmacists who are able to answer medicine and pharmacy-related questions over the telephone on 111.

Despite most GP practices closing, most pharmacies will be open as normal on Friday, September 16, except:

  • Davidsons Chemist, 4/8 Irvine Road, Crosshouse
  • Doon Valley Pharmacy, 5 Cathcartston, Dalmellington
  • Dalrymple Pharmacy, 6 Main Street Dalrymple
  • Drongan Pharmacy, 64 Mill ‘O’ Shield Road, Drongan
  • Fenwick Pharmacy, 77 Main Road, Fenwick

On Monday, September 19, ALL pharmacies in the area will be closed, except from Boots Pharmacy, 62/70 King Street, Kilmarnock which will be open between 12pm- 4pm.

Jane Hall, Associate Director of Pharmacy, explains: “You can do a number of things to make sure you are prepared to deal with common illnesses. Have a sufficient supply of medicines like paracetamol, sore throat and cough remedies, as these will help to relieve the symptoms of common ailments.

“If you take regular medication, you should check your existing supplies and only order what you need to ensure you have enough to see you through the bank holiday. It is also a good idea to make sure you know when your local GP practice and community pharmacy are closed.”
