An application has been approved to transform the former Muirkirk library into a new three-bedroom house.

The library on Burns Avenue was passed from being council-led to being run by the Muirkirk Enterprise Group in September 2017, before closing for good a short while later.

The village's access to library facilities now comes in the form of a mobile library service provided by East Ayrshire Leisure.

It was posted for sale at the end of 2019, with bids closing by Janurary 2020.

Now the vacant building will transformed into a new home after an application submitted by Dalziel Designs on behalf of Mr Nektarios Triantafyllidis was approved by council bosses.

The plans will see no change to public foot paths and public rights of way, and it won't affect any public accesses.

However, it will include the creation of one new parking space for the new house.

Ayrshire Roads Alliance held no objections against the plans.

Scottish Water's response read: "Scottish Water has no objection to this planning application; however, the applicant should be aware that this does not confirm that the proposed development can currently be serviced.

"Please read the following carefully as there may be further action required.

"Scottish Water has carried out a Capacity review and we can confirm the following: There is currently sufficient capacity in the Water DAERTreatment Works to service your development.

"However, please note that further investigations may be required to be carried out once a formal application has been submitted to us.

"For reasons of sustainability and to protect our customers from potential future sewer flooding, Scottish Water will not accept any surface water connections into our combined sewer system".
