Cops were called to the town centre during disorder involving a woman reportedly being attacked by a large group of teenage girls last week.

Officers received a report concerning a disturbance during an incident last weekend at around 9.05pm on Friday night.

One eyewitness told the Times they saw the group attacking and shouting abuse at the woman during the disorder.

Police confirmed this week that after officers attended reports of the disorder no complaints were made by anyone involved - before the group then dispersed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a disturbance on the High Street in Irvine around 9.05pm on Friday, July 29.

“Officers attended but no subsequent complaints were made.

"The group then dispersed.”
