A MAN received surgery in hospital after being injured in a fight in the centre of Ayr.

Police say the 20-year-old was with a group of friends on Main Street, near the junction with Kyle Street, at around 10.30pm on Saturday, July 16, when there was an altercation with two other men who were unknown to the group.

The man later required surgery at University Hospital Ayr for his injuries.

Police say it appears to have been an isolated incident and officers are considering whether the incident was a targeted attack.

Officers are now keen to trace the two men.

The first is described as 30-40 years old, around 6ft 1in tall, of stocky build and bald. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans.

The second man is described as 20-30 years old, 5ft 9in tall, of heavy build with short dark hair. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and shorts.

Anyone who thinks they may have seen these men in the area around that time, or who has any information or dashcam footage which can shed light on what happened is urged to contact Police Scotland.
