CUMNOCK’S MSP has demanded answers from Lloyds Pharmacy after local residents said they had been plagued by prescription failures and unfulfilled orders.

MSP Elena Whitham has contacted the pharmacy’s parent company, McKesson UK, following continued issues facing services in Cumnock.

It’s the second time in three months, the SNP MSP has had to write to the pharmacy giant following continued problems facing residents in accessing prescription services.

The area currently has two Lloyds branches in Cumnock and one in Auchinleck.

Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley MSP, Elena Whitham said: “I understand that the rollout of a problematic IT system by Lloyds has resulted in an unacceptable level of service within the local branches with has resulted in issues with repeat prescriptions going missing, long waits for prescriptions and queues of people having to wait outside for long periods of time.

“Local store staff are working hard, but it is my belief that they are being let down by management that are failing to properly resource the pharmacy which is further compounded by the issues with the new IT systems.

“I have requested an urgent meeting with Lloyd’s parent company to seek assurances that they have a plan in place to return service levels to an acceptable level as soon as possible.”

During the Covid-19 crises, a number of Lloyds Pharmacy branches were forced to close due to the financial impact of the pandemic.

At the time of publication, there was no comment forthcoming from McKesson UK.
