Community information events are being held by the company behind the Benbrack wind farm development in Carsphairn and Dalmellington later this month.

Red Rock Power says it wants to ensure local communities are well informed about the construction period and have an opportunity to ask questions before the start of onsite works in August.

The wind farm was first proposed in 2012 and secured planning consent in 2017, though the terms of the consent have since been varied.

It has a potential generating capacity of around 72 MW and consent for up to 18 turbines, with work expected to start in August.

The company says the events will provide updates on the construction timeline and potential disruptions, as well as mitigations to be put in place and how to address any concerns with the development team.

There will also be an opportunity to share views on Benbrack’s community benefit fund, including management and potential projects that could be supported.

Benbrack project director Jamie Grant said: “We’re excited to be starting the next phase of the Benbrack development and move closer to generating green energy. However, we’re also very mindful that host communities are often faced with a number of potential disruptions and as a considerate developer, we appreciate their patience and understanding during construction. The events are therefore a great opportunity for us to put names to faces and reassure locals of our efforts to minimise impacts and remain responsive to their concerns.

“We are also eager to discuss plans for the wind farm’s community benefit fund and identify opportunities to maximise positive impacts. We hope the Benbrack Fund will create a long-term, successful legacy which spans generations and supports the local area’s aspirations for a sustainable future.”

Events will take place at Lagwyne Hall, Carsphairn on Tuesday, June 28 and at Dalmellington Community Centre on Wednesday, June 29 from 2-7pm.
