Robert Burns Academy’s U16 male football team made history recently, by becoming the first football team to win silverware since the new school was formed.

The boys produced a fantastic performance in front of a large crowd of friends and family to defeat Kilwinning Academy 6-2 in the Ayrshire Cup Final.

Luke Naismith, Aaron Lopez and Gavin Kirkland all found the net, while Matthew Hoffin grabbed the eye with a hat-trick – though the whole team put on an excellent display at Cumnock’s Townhead Park.

On their way to the final, the boys comfortably defeated Kilmarnock Academy in the group stage and then overcame St Matthew’s Academy in dramatic style with a penalty shout out victory which saw goalkeeper Morgan Stirling save four penalties in a row to help the boys reach the final.

Teacher and manager Mr Lynch is extremely proud of the boys for bringing success to the school and the local community and added: “The boys are absolutely delighted with their amazing achievement which will go down in RBA folklore.”
