CHILDREN at Lochnorris Supported Learning Centre joined in the worldwide celebrations of Autism Awareness Day recently.
World Autism Awareness Day, which is now in its 15th year, is an internationally recognised day, held every April, to encourage people to do their bit to raise awareness about people with autism spectrum disorder throughout the world.
Throughout the month, there is a global focus on sharing stories and providing opportunities to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism, fostering worldwide support.
Lochnorris’s theme for this year’s celebration was ‘being unique’.
Kids got involved in a range of activities with their classmates to show how amazing they all are.
They danced, talked, drew and laughed to show their own individual qualities.
All classes ‘dressed down’ to show off their own unique styles and fashion sense.
A spokesperson for Lochnorris said: “In our classes we took part in a range of activities including writing about what makes us unique, stories about autism, sharing our own experiences of autism and some classes had a party to celebrate being us!
“Each child and staff member also created a jigsaw piece for a larger art project to show we are all unique but fit together just right in SLC.
“We all had a great day.”
