Cumnock has been at the heart of work from East Ayrshire Council’s Greener Communities team to clean up towns and villages across the area.

The team joined forces with the local community, Vibrant Communities, Cleaner Communities, the Corporate Enforcement Unit and the Risk Management Centre’s mobile CCTV unit to clean up litter and tackle environmental crime including fly tipping.

The taskforce worked between 8am and 10am power washing the streets within Cumnock.

They cleaned under bins and street furniture, removing cigarette ends and generally removing any grime and dirt from the streets. Additional street sweepers were drafted in to help with the deep clean, mechanically sweeping the pavements.

There is another litter pick taking place this weekend in Cumnock, with the team looking for any volunteers to join in and continue the work of making the area a cleaner place.

Anyone who wishes to participate in the litter pick at the Woodroad Park on Saturday, April 16 will be made very welcome and will be provided with litter pickers and rubbish bags.

Blair Millar, Head of Housing and Communities said: “Working in partnership with our communities is key to the success of Spring Clean week and to tackling littering and environmental crime.

“It is heartening to see people taking time out of their busy lives to work with our employees and keep their communities clean, green and vibrant.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in Spring Clean week for their hard work and for ensuring that East Ayrshire is looking great for the local community and for visitors.

“I hope that even more people will come out on Saturday for the litter picks at Kay Park and Woodroad Park, even just half an hour out of your day would make a big difference.”
