POLICE officers plan to use drone technology in a bid to cut the risk of youth disorder during the longer spring and summer days, it’s been announced.
Officers plan to use drones in particular areas of parks as part of efforts to keep communities across East Ayrshire safe, according to a statement issued by the local authority last week.
The council says drones will be used by police alongside a programme of ‘diversionary activities’ being drawn up by the council and public sector partners.
East Ayrshire Vibrant Communities, Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, are each creating an action plan for young people that will give them positive activities to get involved in.
The plan includes a Vibrant Communities holiday programme, while the council’s youth action team will provide pop-up activities in particular areas.
The team will also be working with local schools to create themed roadshows for S2 and S3 pupils in the lead up to the summer holidays.
It’s also hoped that the Children and Young People’s Cabinet will become involved to help keep communities safe.
Discussions will also take place with licensed premises on the sale of alcohol and the police will be using drones in particular areas of parks to help prevent any issues from occurring.
