A breakdown of the statistics for East Ayrshire found that there were 453.6 crimes committed per 10,000 people.

In total, 5,516 crimes were committed during the 11 months covered by the survey, with dishonesty the most common at 2,099 crimes.

There were 284 sexual crimes, 164 non-sexual violent crimes, 1,085 crimes of fireraising, vandalism etc, 1,673 crimes of other natures, and 211 Covid restriction crimes.

A spokesperson from A-Plan Insurance said: “Protecting ourselves from crime is an essential part of everyday life and this study very interestingly shows that the type of crime committed across the country varies by region.

“The research also highlights that no area is free from crime and therefore we need to remain vigilant in all parts of our lives, whether we’re at home, out and about or online.”
