Pupils at East Ayrshire Early Childhood Centres (ECC) should be picked up early this afternoon due to the Storm Dudley.

Children who attend nursery between 8-6pm or for the afternoon session should be picked up before 3.45pm this afternoon.

East Ayrshire Council chief executive, Eddie Fraser, wrote to parents saying: "As a result of the amber weather warning in place for later today we are requesting that all children are collected from Early Childhood Centres by 3.45pm this afternoon.

"You will be aware that public transport is affected and we are keen to ensure all staff, children and families are able to return home safely before weather conditions deteriorate.

"If collecting, or arranging for your child to be collected, before 3.45pm this afternoon is going to be extremely problematic for you, please contact the Depute or Head of Centre in your Early Childhood Centre as soon as possible.

"We are sorry for the short notice and regret the inevitable disruption that this may cause, but our first priority is the safety and wellbeing of all children and staff.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support which is greatly appreciated."
