An event which was to raise awareness of male violence against women and girls has been cancelled due to bad weather, organisers have confirmed.
The Reclaim The Night March, which planned to take to the streets of East Ayrshire tonight (December 7), has been axed due to troublesome weather including high winds and the potential for snow to land in some villages and towns.
The whole of Ayrshire was issued with a yellow weather warning yesterday.
The march was set to kick off at 6.30pm from King Street in Kilmarnock and then proceed through the town centre in a bid to take back the streets as a safe place for women and girls.
A representative of The Star Centre, who arranged the event alongside East Ayrshire Council's Violence Against Women Partnership, told the Chronicle: "The decision has now been made to postpone the march.
"In light of the weather we really need to keep everyone safe so marching with banners in high wind is not a good idea."
The March will now take place on March 8 which is International Women's Day.
Unfortunately, tonight's Reclaim the Night walk has had to be postponed due to bad weather. It will now be held on 8 March 2022 as part of International Women’s Day and more details will be available nearer the time. #16DaysofAction pic.twitter.com/cgPtrDPAJU
