Staff and board members at A’ the Airts Community Art Centre have received £200,000 which will go towards the extension of their premises on High Street, Sanquhar.

The team expressed their gratitude to Clare Hannah, who presented the cheque on behalf of the Holywood Trust.

Yvonne Barber, centre manager, said: “Our current space is no longer meeting the needs of our young people and our community. To have the additional space will ensure that young people have space to thrive and grow skills in hospitality, arts crafts.

“We are passionate about giving the young people of Upper Nithsdale experience of activities that enhance their education and wellbeing.

“The extension will also benefit the wider community in that we can offer more events and classes for higher numbers of people.”

William Waugh, A’ the Airts chairperson, added: “Our community will benefit from the extension, and it will improve the High Street by bringing another building back into use.”
