There are some new kids on the block at Cumnock Juniors – and they are the youngest ones yet to try their hand at the beautiful game.

Cumnock Juniors have launched a brand new team, the 2016s, who have been training for roughly nine weeks to hone their skills and get as much practice in as they can.

And since their inception, the gang have been fortunate enough to secure a new set of Hummel strips courtesy of ice cream parlour ChocStop, situated on Ayr Road.

On Thursday, October 21 owner Adil Mukhtar came along to Townhead Park to present the strips to the youngsters, and to wish them well as they embark on their exciting footballing adventure.

Adil Muhktar: “I am delighted to give back to my community. This local area has been extremely supportive to my family over the years and it is important that we repay the loyalty shown to us.

“ChocStop wishes the 2016 team every success in the future and will monitor their progress closely.”

Coach Steven Kelly said the partnership has been fantastic so far, and that the team have plans to enter a fun 4s league after Christmas.

For now, they are learning the basic skills of the game in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Steven added: “Every young footballer always remembers their first kit. It’s a special moment.

“There is something perfect about five year old children promoting ice cream. It just works and it has made us into a team. The children are absolutely buzzing.

“Thank you, Adil.”
