A SPECIAL event took place in Rankinston Community Centre recently as part of Challenge Poverty Week (October 4-10).
Headed up by Elaine Stewart and Stuart Douglas, Head of Operations for Scotland for Coalfield Regeneration Trust, the day featured many partner agencies from across East Ayrshire who met with a common goal – to support residents with everything from housing advice to money matters.
There were numerous stands with bodies including Shire Housing and Vibrant Communities.
The community centre staff greeted everyone with a warm welcome, attendees said, and it was lovely to have a bit of normality back to meet and chat with others.
The community food larder was also delighted to receive £200 worth of stock from Dalmellington Co-op store. Clair McBlain, store manager, and Gaela Hall, member pioneer, completed the community donation and secured the items.
The Co-op itself was invited to the event, where staff shared information regarding Co-op Membership and how joining not only helps the customer but also feeds back into the local community.
Residents should contact Gaela Hall at gaela.hall@coop.co.uk if they would like a membership card. They may even receive one of the monthly free cards. Normally they cost £1.
