Workers for Stagecoach in the west of Scotland are set to go on strike later this month as movement on a pay offer has stalled.

Unite the Union served notice to Stagecoach of their planned strike action earlier today.

It comes after Stagecoach management in the east of the country came to an agreement with union bosses over the weekend, after adjusting their pay offer, following the threats of strike action.

Unite are encouraging management in the west of Scotland to follow suit.

They said it's not too late to avoid strike action.

Unite regional officer for the west of Scotland, Siobhan McCready said: “There is still time for Stagecoach West management to avert strike action by coming back to the table with an improved and fair offer for our members.

"Stagecoach West should look around and take note from other depots in Scotland on how to avoid action by coming back with an improved offer. The ball is in their court.”

Members were ballotted on Thursday last week, with the majority backing strike action.

The mandate for industrial action covers major bus depots in Ayrshire, including Ardrossan, Ayr, and Brodick.

Workers involved in the pay dispute are drivers, engineering staff, administrative workers, and cleaners.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach West Scotland said: "We are disappointed that Unite has called for strike action, which benefits no-one.

"Our pay proposals are fair to our people and were recommended by the union, with four out of six depots voting in favour of our offer, and only a very narrow overall vote against.

“We have worked constructively with Unite throughout our discussions, and our pay proposals also ensure the long-term sustainability of the bus network for local communities at a time when passenger numbers are significantly below the level needed to cover the costs of running services.”
