A man has died after being struck by a lorry on the A76 yesterday.
The incident happened on the stretch of road between Pathead and New Cumnock around 3.20pm.
The 36-year-old died at the scene.
The road was closed for around five hours whilst the emergency services attended before opening after 8pm when the road was cleared.
A 50-mile diversion was put in place for those travelling along the busy East Ayrshire road.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received report of a crash involving a 36-year-old man who was struck by a lorry on the A76 in New Cumnock around 3.20pm on Thursday, October 14, 2021.
“The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The road was re-opened around 8.40pm and enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.”
