Lugar Boswell Thistle manager Greg Gallagher applauded his side’s spirit as they fought for a 4-3 win over Irvine Victoria at the weekend.
It was a huge match in Conference A as both sides went into the clash at Rosebank Park looking to push away from each other, and the bottom end of the table.
Declan Walsh opened the scoring for the Westenders in damp conditions, with a fantastic strike from distance into the top right-hand corner.
However, the hosts rallied to equalise through Denver Bolland before a David Rocks penalty gave them the lead going in to half time.
In the second half, Thistle extended their lead through a superb half-volley from Mark Doolan before a volley from Stephen Wilson gave the away side a lifeline.
It was not to be for the Vic’s as an own goal saw Lugar pull away before they grabbed a late consolation.
Speaking to the Chronicle, Gallagher said: “It was a hard fought game and the weather was not ideal, which I think made it that more of a spirited performance from the players.
“But they did well and battled away the whole match.”
