Fire crews are currently working to put out a fire which has taken hold of a chip shop in Muirkirk.
Emergency services were alerted to reports of a blaze around 2.44pm this afternoon [Tuesday, October 5] at Garan Fish Bar, located on Main Street.
Firefighters are still in attendance and are working to control the blaze.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.44pm on Tuesday, October 5 to reports of a building on fire at Main Street, Muirkirk.
“Operations Control mobilised four appliances and firefighters are still in attendance at a fire affecting a commercial property within a two-storey building.”
East Ayrshire Council has confirmed that due to the incident, Main Street has closed and will be closed for the next few hours.
Local diversions are in place but motorists are urged to avoid the area if they can.
