Gear up sun-seekers, the last of the summer sun is on its way and to help you make the most of it, we've pinpointed the times and days at which you'll be best able to soak up as much vitamin D as possible before saying goodbye to the warmth until next spring.

The heat is expected to arrive today, with Cumnock seeing temperatures rise to 23 degrees celsius. The hottest part of the day will be between 4-6pm

The West Coast will be slightly cooler today, but still pleaseant at 20 degrees in Irvine and around 19 in Ayr and Ardrossan.

The warmest part of the day in Ayr and Ardrossan will be between 2-5pm and in Irvine, 3-5pm.

Tomorrow the mercury rises even higher, with some areas seeing temperatures reaching 26 degrees celsius.

Irvine looks set to be the hottest, with temperatures already at 20 degrees by 10am and at 25 degrees or above for a solid five hours between 1-6pm.

It's a similar story across the rest of Ayrshire, though Ardrossan may be slightly cooler than more southern and eastern areas, with temperatures there set to peak at 24 degrees.

We keep the warmth into Thursday, but rain could bring the temperatures down significantly, to around 20 degrees celsius. So far the Met Office predicts there is a 40 per cent of showers hitting Ardrossan, Ayr, Cumnock, and Irvine on Thursday between the hours of 1-7pm.

And into Friday, we see temperatures come back down to more recognisable levels for late Summer/early Autumn.
