IF YOU had been taking a walk through the countryside on the weekend of Sunday, August 8 you might have heard a rumble in the distance and wondered what it was – well it was the Kames Car Show, welcoming back unique motors from across the country to show off their gleaming bods and fancy mods.

The event ran from 10am-3.30pm and despite a bit of rain was well attended with car lovers and enthusiasts checking out all the impressive vehicles lined up at the Kames Motorsport Complex near Muirkirk.

There were food stalls and coffee stands dotted around the place, but the real action was with the cars, the motors were entered into competitions, based on looks, not speed, and judges declared which car was the best in a variety of categories:

Best Classic sponsored by MG Caledonia Centre, winner – Alan Galloway with his Opel Manta 400

Car of the Show sponsored by Ayrshire Classics, winner – David Scott with his Ford Capri Rs3100

Best Wheels sponsored by Modified Misfits, winner – 1934 Ford 3 Window Coupe

Best Modern Car on Show sponsored by Central Scotland Subaru, winner – Craig Drummond with his Holden.

Best Rally Car sponsored by Jaguars Drivers Club Scotland, winner – Tom Blackwood with his Ford WRC

Best Club Stand sponsored by Scottish Old Skool, winner – Lanarkshire Classic Car Club.

A spokesperson from the Kames Car Show Committee said: “We’d like to take the opportunity to thank all our entrants and the public for coming along to Kames Car Show.

“The day was brilliantly attended and supported by a great variety of local clubs and as always, there was a great spread of cars and vehicles – definitely something for everyone.

“Thank you to all our vendors, traders, marshals, photographers, East Ayrshire Council Events, Licensing, Environmental Health and Police Scotland for their support yet again allowing us to bring you the show during these difficult times.

“From all of us here at EACC and Scottish Old Skool, we look forward to welcoming you back to Kames soon.”

The event was deemed COVID safe by the council.
