Auchinleck Talbot manager Tommy Sloan says he can’t ask for much more from his players after a 1-0 win over Rutherglen Glencairn stretched their lead at the top of the WOSFL Premier Division to four points.

Results elsewhere, including the three teams below Talbot all dropping points, meant that is was a good afternoon all round for the Beechwood Park side.

Sloan was keen to express how proud he was of his players for putting in that extra bit of effort for a slightly depleted Talbot squad.

Jack McDowell’s winning goal now means that his side are now on an eight-match winning streak, and are still yet to lose a match this league season.

Sloan admits that it was far the best football he has witnessed his Talbot side play, but he was thrilled to claim another three points.

He told the Chronicle: “There’s a big effort getting put in there and I can’t really ask for much more from the boys, I’m delighted with the effort.

“Some of the performances and even all round it wasn’t great performance-wise, and not what we’re looking for, but that bit of quality got us a goal and we managed to hang on for the three points so I’m delighted with that as well.”

The winning mentality at the club is apparent as Tommy Sloan also highlighted that it’s all about the result and then they can worry about the performance afterwards.

He added: “It’s always about the result first and then the performance, you’re always wanting to play better but it doesn’t always happen.”

Attention has already turned to Wednesday night’s match with Beith in front of the home crowd.

“We’ve got another tough game on Wednesday before the Scottish Cup next week.

“We’ve got to focus on Beith now, that’s historically been a big fixture for us, certainly over the last 10 years it has been, so we need to make sure we’re ready for another tough test.”

After hearing that other results had gone in Talbot’s favour, Sloan signed off with “We’re not daft, it’s early days and we won’t get carried away, but we’ll take it.”
