The granddaughter of a pensioner in her 80s robbed by a Cumnock fraudster who stole money from their gran as well as using a vulnerable pensioner’s bank card have revealed the devastating affect on the victim.

Caitlin Gibson, 23, admitted three charges of fraud by electronic means and one charge of theft last month – when she stole cash from the woman, aged 87, at her home in Elderslie Crescent up in Kilmarnock.

And the grandaughter of the vulnerable victim told she has been left needing CCTV in her home after the ‘home help’ robbed her handbag.

She said: “My gran took really ill in 2019 and as a family we decided to get carers for her as a last resort – my gran has always been independent while on her own when my papa died.

“About a week into it this lassie Caitlin Gibson was then going into my gran’s and she put her to bed and kidded on she was leaving, but she’s got a creaking floorboard.

“She had a handbag hidden behind her chair stashed. She took everything, there was two purses, one with £750 and one with £70. She could even leave her that to get food. My gran’s really deteriorated because of this – and she’s really not trusting. The home helps she’s got now are absolutely amazing but what’s the point as now my mum has to be there. She’s damaged my gran doing that.

“We have left it to the courts but I’m absolutely disgusted – I thought we would be getting justice but she’s just allowed out to show good behaviour after robbing vulnerable people.

“My gran’s been left really upset. We’ve had to get CCTV in the house for my gran’s sake of mind.

“It’s absolutely disgusting doing a job just to rob people.”

We told last week how Gibson used another victim’s bank card while pretending she was the owner on November 23, 2019. The next day Gibson bought £300 of goods by fraud.

Sentence was deferred until next year for Gibson to be of good behaviour.
