The Roundhouse Café at Loch Doon are naming one of their osprey chicks after a very special figure in the community.

Last week, the café announced that after the osprey chicks had been ringed, the decision was made to name the male osprey chick after Ciril Ostroznik, who helped bring the birds to Ayrshire.

Ciril built the nest platform for the ospreys and generally dedicated his life to looking after them but tragically died after falling from a tree in Dumfries and Galloway last year. He was 67.

At the time, owner Brian Meechan, said: “We were really saddened to hear of the death of Ciril on March 24. He helped set up the platforms on Loch Doon and has been instrumental in helping ospreys at other lochs.”

The two female chicks will be named by the Dalmellington PS pupils.
