A CRIME fiction writer is keeping the South West of Scotland in the spotlight after releasing the twelfth novel in a gripping murder series based in Ayrshire.

Author Pete Brassett has just revealed his twelfth novel which is the latest in a continuation of his thrilling series featuring DI Munro who leads a team of detectives in Ayrshire as they look to solve a double murder.

Pete himself has clearly been inspired by the location of his books and his writings on the county as he has returned to live in his native Scotland to the area where his books are set.

And after having spent years working in the creative industries in big cities including Paris, New York and London, clearly his return to the South West of Scotland is paying dividends as Penury is now shooting up the Amazon charts.

On his writing process, Pete explained: “I’ve always approached things from a skewed point of view asking myself, how can I make this different?

Cumnock Chronicle:

“There is nothing original in this world, just different ways of interpreting what’s gone before, so I apply that to my writing in the same way I used to apply it when answering a design brief.”

In Penury, which was published Monday, June 21, Pete taps into local folklore about the rowan tree, and has fatherly veteran cop DI Munro tackling suspicion to solve his case.

The book is the next instalment in the series of witty whodunnits featuring DI James Munro and brought out by UK publisher The Book Folks.

Since publishing the first book in the series in August 2016, Pete has sold over half a million books, and a similar amount have been read in the Kindle library.

Publisher Erik Empson said: “Pete is a wonderful writer of gripping fiction. He succeeds in conveying the landscape and atmosphere of Scotland and its folk perfectly.”

Penury is available to buy on Amazon now.
