DEAR First Minister

Please, please do not give approval to the use of e-scooters in Scotland. I spent three days in Paris in 2019 and encountered the nightmare of these machines terrorising pavements and footpaths. We already see cyclists more and more using pavements and footpaths expecting pedestrians to step aside and get out of the way because they are afraid to use roads choc-a-block with lorries, vans and cars.

Driving a hundred miles with bikes or e-scooters strapped to the car to cycle or scoot two or three miles when you get there will not save the planet or improve your health. As far as cycling is concerned, the horse has bolted and it’s too late to shut the door. Please close the door now to e-scooters before it’s too late.

Walking is much healthier for people than either cycling or e-scooters but national and local governments don’t appear to be interested.
