Kind-hearted bikers donated £2,828.75 to help the sick kids in Crosshouse after raising funds from their own homes under lockdown.

Ayrshire’s Hillbillies MCC raised the amazing amount for the youngsters in Crosshouse Hospital despite the coronavirus lockdown cancelling their annual Easter Egg charity runs.

The club previously set up a crowdfunder page at the start of the pandemic, urging members, usual participants and residents to donate despite COVID-19 restrictions limiting motorcycling.

Members joined in revving their bikes from their homes in tribute to the NHS since they couldn’t set out on the run last year, with restrictions again cancelling the big run.

A Hillbillies MCC Ayrshire spokesperson said: “Now that lockdown is lifted a few of us were able to drop in and present the cheque to Crosshouse.

“Thanks to everyone who helped raise such a fantastic amount. Respect to you all. Looking forward to seeing you all on the road. Stay Safe.”

Since 2003 members have organised the Easter Egg Run from Mauchline to Crosshouse Hospital – with the club unable to proceed due to COVID-19.

The club previously said: “Our fundraising focuses on the sick children at our local hospital and we wish to maintain that support if possible during this pandemic.”
