Girvan has been struck by a power cut and many homes and businesses are currently going without power.

The outage has affected premises in the KA26 neighbourhood.

There are reports of the traffic lights at Bridge Street/Hamilton Street also being out of order so any motorists in the area should proceed with caution.

Scottish Power say they are sending an engineer to the local substation, with the aim of restoring power by 4pm this afternoon.

In a statement on their website, they said: "There is a power cut in the KA26 postcode area of Girvan.

"We had no advance warning of this and only became aware of it at 12:59pm.

"Our engineers are on their way to the local substation and the team will work to get your power back on as quickly and as safely as possible by 4pm.

"Once they arrive, or when we receive any update regarding the cause, we will be able to provide you with more information. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
