A fundraiser has been launched for Cumnock Juniors Community Enterprise (CJCE) after the community sports hub was the target of a break in at the weekend.

The facility allegedly had thousands of pounds worth of goods stolen from it on Saturday morning (April 10).

The items believed to have been stolen were bottles of alcohol, a Dyson hoover, a 75-inch TV, and various other electrical equipment.

A police spokesman confirmed: “Around 10.55am on Saturday, April 10, officers received a report of a break-in and theft from a premises on Townhead Street, Cumnock.

“Enquiries are at an early stage and ongoing”.

As part of a Facebook post announcing the break in, CJCE said: “We were working hard during covid to create a learning environment for the kids.

“We were extremely proud to create a “classroom” for them to use either academically, socially or for performance analysis.

“However the contents of this room are now completely gone. This room saw massive investment as we are determined to make sure we can provide top class facilities, both on and off the park

“The show must go on however and our food drops, community programmes etc will continue as we don’t underestimate our role within the community, despite this occurrence.”

Soon after the incident was announced, Emma McCulloch created a JustGiving account with the hope of raising £500 to donate to the CJCE to cover any losses.

By 8pm on Saturday evening, the fundraiser had reached its targeted amount and has since amassed more than £2,500 to be given to the service.

Emma said: “Ive started this just giving page to try raise funds to go towards Cumnock Juniors [Community] Enterprise being able to replace the items stolen from the sports hub.

“This hub is the heart of the community more so in last year where they have gone above and beyond for our local communities.”
