Several pupils at Netherthird Primary School are self-isolating following a confirmed case of coronavirus.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran have confirmed that a contact tracing exercise is underway at the school, with close contacts advised to self-isolate for 10 days.

The health board has assured that every measure is being taken to safeguard pupils and staff.

Netherthird PS closed in August 2017 with children decamped to Greenmill, where they will remain until the new primary school is built.

The Greenmill building now operates as Netherthird Primary School, Greenmill Campus.

Lynne McNiven, Joint Director of Public Health, said: "NHS Ayrshire and Arran’s Test & Protect team is currently conducting a contact tracing exercise with links to Netherthird Primary in the East Ayrshire Council area.

"Close contacts identified through this process are being advised to self-isolate for 10 days by the Test and Protect Team.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time.

"We would like to remind people of the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19): new persistent cough, high temperature and / or loss of taste and smell. Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately."

Everyone in Ayrshire and Arran is reminded to remember the FACTS guidance:

F – Face coverings. These should be used in shops and on public transport (buses, trains and taxis)

A – Avoid crowded places.

C – Clean your hands frequently, using water & soap whenever possible.

T – Two metres – observe physical distancing.

S – Self-isolate and book a test if you are suffering from COVID-19 symptoms.
