Pupils at Dalmellington PS extended a hand this Christmas by making hampers for two local care homes.

Students wanted to give elderly residents a boost and so created the packages full of goodies and essentials.

Claire McPhail, head teacher, said: “The House Captains from P7 asked me if they could do things for the school community to keep spirits high. They spoke about not seeing their own grandparents at this time which led on to a discussion about the elderly residents in the local care homes and the staff who are working so hard to care for them.

“The children wanted to show their support and provide treats to thank them for the great job they are doing so the Vice Captains composed a special message, with encouraging words, for the labels and staff donated items for the hampers.

“We then contacted a Dalmellington Co-op Member Pioneer Colleague to ask if the Co-op could support with donations.

“Hopefully the children got their wish by brightening someone’s day.”
