Earlier this month the Chronicle launched a drive to support local foodbanks this festive season - with a bag in every copy to fill and donate with food.

This appeal was only possible thanks to our advertising team who worked tirelessly to ensure that the initiative could go ahead and despite the difficulties of the year so far that we have all faced, it was something that we are immensely proud of.

We know that 2020 has been a very difficult year for all manner of reasons but one thing that has been every present in the pages of our newspaper and on our website since we were first locked down, is the charitable nature of the people from Cumnock and the surrounding areas.

Whether it be charity walks, multiple marathons, bike rides, special days at school or even a collection of toys, you have gone above and beyond in the name of charity, and everyone that we have spoken to welcomes this generosity in a huge way.

Jolene McGhee, Advertising Manager for Ayrshire Weekly Press, said: “After an unprecedented year, we’ve seen so many people club together and diversify.

“It is so important for the Cumnock Chronicle to be at the centre of the community, we would like to say a massive thank you to East Ayrshire Council for their support on this campaign and helping make it happen.”

Paul Fisher, Senior Content Editor at Ayrshire Weekly Press, added: “To be able to support local charities is something we are all happy to be able to do. The support our readership have shown us throughout the year is incredible and we hope to continue telling the stories of our communities into 2021 and beyond.

“Thank you to everyone, and on behalf on myself and the whole team, we hope you have a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous 2021.”
