AN INSPIRATIONAL Saltcoats charity worker has vowed to continue her fight against food poverty in Ayrshire over Christmas after a year of helping vulnerable people.

Anne Kelso works for Ayrshire Food Hub, a charity set up with the aim of providing skills and knowledge around food and nutrition, as well as distributing meals to those who need it most.

Now she has vowed to reach out those who are at risk of becoming isolated, cut off and unable to access something as simple as a warm meal over the festive period.

Anne said: “Over the festive period we will be continuing to provide emergency food provisions as well as working hard to have our new facility up and running. Alongside this, we will be offering Christmas activities for the community. We will also be producing festive cooking videos on YouTube.”

Anne has been helping people learn how to grow and cook their own food and has been bringing families together by helping them cook healthy meals and snacks, as well as advice on how to budget.

Last year she received high praise for her work as she was included in 30 under 30, The Young Women’s Movement’s celebration of inspiring Scottish women in 2019.

She added: “Going home at the end of a long day knowing that you have made a difference in the community is extremely rewarding. Seeing social issues daily and not being able to help was always incredibly frustrating for me, that is what brought me into community work.”

“Overcoming challenges whether they are at work or in our personal lives always makes us stronger, better-adjusted people.”
