A THUG told his lover he would stab the life out of her if she went to court to testify against him in a domestic assault trial.

Brian Hendry initially pounced on the woman at her home in Cardonald in February this year.

The 41-year-old grabbed the woman and repeatedly slapped her before she was able to escape and lock herself in a child’s bedroom.

When the case was due to go to court in August, Hendry made the vile threat which scared the terrified victim.

Hendry, who has previous convictions for domestic offences, pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault to the woman’s injury and a separate charge of perverting the course of justice.

He also admitted breaching the conditions of his bail by contacting his partner of five-and-a-half years.

The court heard Hendry and the woman had been drinking alcohol when he grabbed her neck without warning.

Prosecutor Hannah Terrance said: “The accused pinned her to the sofa and repeatedly slapped her to the face.

“She managed to break free and run into a child’s bedroom where she phoned the police and Hendry left the property.”

Officers later arrived and found the woman”distressed” with a wound to her nose as well as bruising and a cut to her eye.

Hendry was traced nearby and arrested before being released on bail with conditions not to contact the woman or enter her street.

The hearing was told the woman allowed Hendry to move in with her in August due to fears over his mental health.

Hendry became “agitated” three days later and was told to leave by the woman but he refused.

He stated: “If you turn up at court on Wednesday, I’ll stab the life out you.”

Hendry left the property and was arrested at his home after a neighbour contacted the police upon hearing the threat.

Lawyer Tony Callahan, defending, told the court that the relationship is over and the second incident occurred on the anniversary of his young son’s death.

Sentence was deferred until next month by Sheriff Ian Fleming for background reports and consideration of a non-harassment order.

Hendry, who appeared from custody, had his remand continued meantime.
