An organisation that supports foodbanks in Cumnock is appealing for local people to help support their food collection this Christmas.

The Trussell Trust, which supports the East Ayrshire Foodbank, which operates out of St Johns Church and elsewhere in East Ayrshire, is asking the public to share lists on their social media accounts of what’s needed at local foodbanks.

From Thursday, November 19 to Saturday, November 21 they’ll be collecting food in Tesco stores for the annual collection. Foodbanks in the network are expecting to give out six emergency food parcels every minute this winter.

Leah Baillie, the Trussell Trust’s area manager for Cumnock, said: “A crisis can often bring out the best in people, and we have been overwhelmed by the support the UK has shown towards food banks in light of the coronavirus outbreak.

“As we look to the one of the busiest times of the year for food banks, we would be so grateful if people can share shopping lists of their local food bank’s most-needed items on social media to encourage friends and family to donate.”
