People across Ayrshire are being warned to brace themselves as heavy rain batters the region.

Travel disruption and some flooding is expected after the Met Office released a Yellow warning for rain from 3am this morning [Monday, October 19].

The Met Office said: "There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life."

Trains on the Ayr to Glasgow line are running at a reduced speed due to severe weather.

Network Rail Scotland have imposed a 40mph speed restriction on the tracks in response to the high volume of rainfall forecast.

An accident on the junction between the A720 A70 Baberton and B701 Dreghorn restricted two lanes Eastbound. UPDATE: The accident has since been cleared.

The A76 between Crossroads Roundabout and the Crosshands Junction was closed both ways earlier this morning, but was reopened at 8.15am.

There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings and where flooding occurs, delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, and it is possible that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.

Residents have also been told be aware as there is a possibility of power cuts and loss of other services.

The warning is in place until 9am tomorrow [Tuesday, October 20].
