A 12-YEAR-OLD boy had to be taken to hospital after he was assaulted outside Cumnock Academy.
The boy suffered a minor injury and was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital after the incident around 4.05pm on Tuesday (September 15).
Police were called to the scene on Ayr Road.
It was first feared that the child was unconscious but East Ayrshire Council have confirmed that was not the case.
The boy was discharged from hospital a short time later.

It comes just weeks after a bus driver was allegedly attacked outside the school.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland told the Chronicle: “Officers in Cumnock received reports of an assault on Ayr Road, around 4.05pm on Tuesday, 15 September.
“A 12-year-old boy was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment to a minor injury and was discharged a short time later.
“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
A spokesperson for the council said: “ East Ayrshire Council can confirm that there was an incident at Cumnock Academy and an ambulance was called as a precaution. The young person was not unconscious and has recovered well.”
