A pensioner has died after being struck by a vehicle in Newhouse on Saturday afternoon.

The 67-year-old woman was crossing the B7066 Glasgow and Edinburgh road near to its junction with Bothwellshields Road before she was struck by a grey Seat Alhambra. 

Emergency services rushed to the incident, however the pensioner was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Seat was uninjured and her passengers - a man and two children - were also uninjured.

Officers are now appealing to the public for information.

Sergeant Craig McDonald of the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell said: “Our investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has any information that may assist our enquiries to contact us. I would also appeal to anyone who was driving on the B7066 around the time of the crash who has dash-cam footage to contact us.”
