Cumnock Juniors FC are into the semi-final of the Cross-Country Cup.
Despite not actually being able to play football, the club have had roaring success in the online knock-out tournament.
CJFC beat Glenafton Athletic in a close fought quarter-final match that saw the sides separated by just 17 points, with the score being 761-778.
The Cross-Country Cup is a tournament run by Donate a Ticket an initiative that was set up at the beginning of lockdown by football fans eager to assist their teams financially throughout the COVID-19 crisis.
Fans donate the cost of a matchday ticket in a series of ‘matches’ as their team progresses through the tournament.
Supporter donations accumulate in a ‘pot’ and will ultimatelybe avaialable to the clubs to go someway to replacing the lost revenues from actual gate receipts.
Fans of both Cumnock Juniors and Glenafton Athletic far outstripped the other quarter-finalists in their generosity with the next highest scoring club, Bonnyrigg Rose, only managing 267 in a ‘match’.
The Nock now progress to the semi-finals where St. Roch’s FC, Whitehawk FC or Bonnyrig Rose await.
