A THUG scarred a man for life with a glass bottle in a nightclub assault.

Mark Whitelaw, 27, pounced on Kevin Flynn at Kirkintilloch’s Club Bliss last November.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Whitelaw got into a heated argument with another man in the toilets.

Mr Flynn stepped in as he was “anxious” for the man and asked Whitelaw to calm down.

Prosecutor Adele Macdonald said: “Whitelaw responded by striking Mr Flynn on the face with a glass bottle that he had in his hand.

“This caused a large cut in Mr Flynn’s face.”

Mr Flynn ran and fell down the stairs before being treated at the scene by a first aider.

Whitelaw later handed himself in at Kirkintilloch police station.

Mr Flynn meantime was taken to hospital for treatment to an eye wound that required 12 stitches.

Miss Macdonald added: “This has left a large scar..”

Whitelaw pleaded guilty on Thursday to the assault to Mr Flynn’s severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Sentence was deferred until next month by Sheriff Sean Murphy QC for background reports.

Whitelaw, also of Kirkintilloch, had his remand in custody continued meantime.
