A PENSIONER whose home is infested with dangerous damp from Girvan’s doomed Bingo Hall says the council have been ‘sneaky b******s’ with their offer to help him – after placing him and his wife in poor temporary accommodation.

Gus Kilgour has experienced a year of hell, after he was forced to evacuate his home of 25 years due to damp and he suspects there is dry rot growing underneath floorboards.

The 70-year-old, who suffered a heart attack in 2019 due to the stress of the saga, has been fighting a losing battle with the owners of the old Bingo Hall.

Not even a year later and Gus has had to move TWICE in the past six months, starting from a homeless unit in Ayr to an estate in Prestwick where he claims to have been spat on by anti-social youths.

But he claims the council, who want to buy back the Bingo Hall, have offered him a figure of £25,000 for his flat and shop below after having both valued at £105,000 four years ago.

Gus told the Advertiser: “This has been a living hell. My wife’s had a nervous breakdown, she’s on anti-depressants. I took a heart attack last year because of the stress of it all. Four years ago, my house and shop were worth £105,000, now according to the council it’s worth £25,000. They are sneaky b*****.”

“I have been to lawyers who tell me I’ve got no chance of fighting, this that the company who own the Bingo Hall have 36 limited companies. They want me to lock the door and walk away. It makes me so angry.”

Gus’ woes hit an all-time low in January after the council sent in environmental health team and deemed his home and downstairs shop unsafe.

They offered the former roofer for 35 years, a temporary accommodation which he said was a “drug den”.

He said: “You should have seen the place they first moved us. We now live on estate where youths are out of control. I’ve been spat on, they’ve egged the house. My wife Patricia is terrified. She won’t even go to hang out the washing.”

A spokesperson for South Ayrshire Council said: “The council is having ongoing discussions with Mr Kilgour regarding his property.”
