Former Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan has issued a public apology following pleading guilty to domestic abuse on Tuesday.

The rock singer, 39, quit Kasabian on Monday after releasing a statement saying he was dealing with “personal issues” and wanted to concentrate on “getting his life back on track”.

He has now taken to Twitter to make a statement regarding recent events and "publicly apologise" for an incident he calls "isolated" and "completely out of character."

In the statement made up of several paragraphs, Meighan detailed his struggles with alcohol addiction, unstable mental health and ADHD diagnosis saying said he is "very sorry" and "deeply regrets [his] recent behaviour", calling the incident "isolated" and "out of character."

The statement reads: "I am completely to blame and accept all responsibility.

"I have struggled for many years with alcohol addiction. The incident in April was a wake-up call for me, for who I was, and what I was becoming. I was spiralling out of control. My mental health was becoming more and more unstable and I was at breaking point."

The singer says he now understands "more about my behavioural issues", and will now look forward to rebuilding his life with partner Vikki Ager "with the support of those close to us."

Meighan was yesterday sentenced to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work for assaulting former fiancee Vikki Ager.
