Information is being sought after a hit and run that saw a man lucky to escape injury on the B743.

Ronnie McEwan was driving to work at 5.50pm from his home in Catrine on Tuesday, June 16 when a white Mercedes Sprinter van came careering round a corner on the B743 near the turn off for Tarbolton, colliding with his car.

The van was said to be encroaching onto the opposite lane, in which 61-year-old Ronnie was travelling in his blue Dacia Sandero on his way to Ayr where he works as a driver for Streamline Taxis.

Ronnie narrowly missed a head on collision with the van but his car did not escape without any damage, the van passed so close as to scrape the side of Ronnie’s Dacia, taking off part of the wheel arch and scratching the rear passenger door.

Ronnie said that he had feared for his life when he saw the van coming round the corner at well over 50mph, he said: "He was going too fast round the corner and he was on my side of the road, there was no way he was going to miss me.”

Both vehicles stopped after the collision but as Ronnie approached the driver of the van to exchange details he was left flabbergasted as the driver sped off.

“I stopped a bit further down the road and got out my car. I approached him to talk, said we needed to move the cars as they were in the middle of the road and that we needed to exchange details. I went back to my car and he buggered off. I could see it in his face that he knew he was in the wrong,” said Ronnie.

He is seeking more information from anybody who knows anything about the driver of the van, license plate ending in SKK.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision on the B743 between Mauchline and Ayr, near the turn off to Tarbolton, around 6.30pm on Tuesday, 16 June, 2020.

"The collision involved a Dacia Sandero and a white Mercedes Sprinter van. The driver of the van left the scene. Nobody was injured. Enquiries are ongoing."
