A WOMAN driven to “tears” has finally won her fight to save her holiday deposit...after The Glasgow Times stepped in to share her plight.

As we revealed last week, Ann Marie McClintock was due to jet off to Turkey in the summer only for the travel market to be grounded by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Baillieston woman booked the package holiday to Dalaman with travel giant’s TUI in their Glasgow Fort superstore in February.

Then lockdown hit and the 53-year-old was unable to pay off the rest of her deposit in-store by the end of April.

This meant she had not only lost out on her dream holiday but also the chance of getting a refund for what she had already paid.

This led to an appeal for help being published in The Glasgow Times...and it didn’t take long for us to achieve a positive result.

On the day we shared her story, Ms McClintock was contacted by staff from TUI who arranged for her to pay off the rest of her deposit and moved her booking to 2021.

It means Ms McClintock will still be able to enjoy the trip to the sunshine with nieces Chelsea McAuley, 16, and 17-year-old Elle Glassford.

“Your story created a miracle,” she said. “TUI phoned me on Thursday asking what I would like to do and we eventually arranged to re-book our holiday for next year.

“Thank you so much for listening to me and for putting pressure on TUI.”

She added: “It’s all down to you for listening and printing the story. It shows there is still power in the press.”

However, Ms McClintock has had to pay an extra £39 for each guest for next year’s trip to Turkey and she has lost out on cash already splashed on an airport transfer.

She said: “I am not exactly ecstatic about it but I don’t see what more could have been done.

“I am now just waiting to see what happens with my insurance.”

Meanwhile, Tui yesterday extended the suspension of holidays for UK customers until at least the end of June due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

The travel giant has come under pressure in recent weeks after sticking firmly by a policy to only refund passengers who can provide a sick note from a doctor saying travelling would put them at-risk because of a pre-existing condition.

A TUI spokesperson said: "Due to the on-going travel restrictions, we have now extended our cancellations of all beach holidays until 30 June and all Marella Cruises sailings up to 30 July 2020.

"All customers whose bookings are impacted by the above changes will receive a refund credit and if their booking was for a package they will also get an up to 20 per cent incentive, or they can request a cash refund via an online form on the TUI website."
