A GLASGOW nurse consultant has won a prestigious national award to support critical care patients across the UK.
Joanne McPeake, who works for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, is one of only seven people in the country to receive a grant from the Winston Churchill Trust’s new Activate Fund.
Joanne will use the funding to look into reasons why many patients discharged from hospital after a critical care admission return under emergency circumstances.
She is hoping the project will also improve the transition from hospital to home for patients.

Joanne will interview patients, caregivers and NHS staff across different hospitals, in order to understand how this renewed contact with the NHS could have been avoided.
She said: “Now, more than ever, survivors of critical care require support to reintegrate into their home life. This award will support patients and their family members as well the health service.”
The Activate Fund is a new programme from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. This year it is providing £101,000 in grants to seven Fellows, as part of a three-year pilot project.
