A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting two police officers in Auchinleck.

Police, a man and a woman, attended the scene in the Hillside Crescent area following a report of a disturbance at around 1pm on Monday.

Both officers suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized, but have been discharged.

A 47-year-old man was arrested and was due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Chief Superintendent Faroque Hussain, Ayrshire's divisional commander, said: "Just spoke to two colleagues who were [allegedly] assaulted last night.

"Officers across [Ayrshire] deal with dangerous situations on a daily basis to serve and protect Ayrshire, however being assaulted is not simply part of the job.

"An injury to one of our officers is an injury to us all.

Chief Inspector Steven Meikle from Kilmarnock: “A 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault of two police officers in Ayrshire.

“The officers, a man and a woman, were responding to a report of a disturbance in the Hillside Crescent area of Cumnock at around 1pm on Monday, 4 May.

“Both officers sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital where they were released following treatment.

“The man is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 5 May.”
