A FARM that attracts visitors to see world famous Clydesdale horses has been overwhelmed by supportive donations made during the coronavirus crisis.

Blackstone Farm, outside Cumnock, launched a desperate plea to help care for 29 of their magnificent work horses.

An online Just Giving fundraiser has raised nearly £10,000 in less than a month.

The fundraiser was set to cover the monthly cost of £5,000 to look after the horses, as the farm endures its peak months without any visitors.

The Clydesdales would normally make own their living, by inviting guests to visit, work and ride or drive them in harness.

But with restrictions in place, the farm and the horses are unable to entertain fans.

The farm is run by couple Magi and John Duncan. Magi was amazed with the generous response.

She told the Chronicle: “It’s a bit overwhelming the support that we’ve gotten. We’ve got a big following on Facebook, but in a crisis like this everyone has their own issues and other things going on. A lot of small businesses need help.

“Our visitors come from all over the world. We’re getting donations from different countries. They want to visit us when we’re back open.

“Here the horses come first. We could starve before they did. We are extremely lucky to have so many kind donations.”

Blackstone is also home to Bob the pig, Bubbles the donkey, MiniMe the ram, plus Carlos and Hayden, the Alpaca boys.

But it’s the Clydesdale’s which are the star of the show and attract hundreds of visitors from America every year as they get the chance to get up close to the rare breed of horses.
