The Scottish Volleyball Association are delighted to announce the formation of a new Beach Volleyball Club.

The West Coast Beach club have completed the required governance checks and have held their first committee meeting.

The club will be based in Ayrshire, with plans to use beaches in both South and North Ayrshire to promote the sport of beach volleyball. The club have drafted their constitution to become a registered incorporated charity (SCIO) and have submitted their application to the Official Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

The SVA West region Development Officer Blair Pettigrew assisted in the creation of the new club and was hugely impressed with the ambition and development plans of the club.

He said: “I was delighted to help Stewart, Kelsie and Sam in the creation of the new West Coast club. Ayrshire has some of the best beaches in the country and I can’t wait to see the club flourish and grow the region.

“This dedicated beach club will help grow and develop the sport and provide opportunities throughout the west region. I would urge the volleyball and wider community to get behind and support this new club”

Club President Stewart Caldwell “We are really happy to take the step into forming this club. It’s something we have talked about for a long time and with Blair’s support we took the plunge a few months back and its really starting to take shape.

“Obviously, we can’t get out on the beach just now but we want to make sure we are in a strong position when we can get back out and enjoy our sport.”

The SVA are committed to supporting clubs to increase the profile of the sport in communities and maximise the opportunities for members.

The development team are working hard to provide some excellent resources and digital learning opportunities as part of the #SVAonline programme which is currently being delivered.

May will see the focus turn to club governance and planning.

Online courses are free to SVA members, but spaces are limited.

You can contact the club via email on westcoastbeachvolley@gmail.com or check out the website www.westcoastbeachvolley.com
